Free Mover

If there is an inter-institutional agreement between your home university and Eskişehir Technical University (ESTU), it is possible to study at ESTU as a free mover.

Students who wish to spend an exchange period (one or two semesters) in Eskişehir may apply under the free mover status for Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree programs. Hosting approval is subject to the availability and acceptance of the relevant faculty, depending on the proposed study program.
ESTU does not charge tuition fees to incoming students from partner institutions.

How Does the Process Work?

The free mover application process consists of several steps carried out in coordination between the student’s home university and Eskişehir Technical University.

1. Nomination and Required Application Documents

First, the student must be officially nominated by their home university. During the nomination process, the following documents are required:

  • Official approval letter from the home university confirming permission to apply as a free mover (in English)
  • Signed Application Form
  • Proof of sufficient language proficiency in English or Turkish, depending on the applied department
    • Minimum B1 level for Bachelor’s applicants
    • Minimum C1 level for Master’s applicants

Please note that departments may conduct an interview prior to acceptance.

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) and Motivation Letter (in English)
  • Transcript of Records (in English)
  • Copy of Bachelor’s degree certificate (for Master’s applicants)
  • Copy of Master’s degree certificate (for PhD applicants)

2. Departmental Evaluation and Approval

All submitted documents are forwarded to the relevant academic department where the student plans to study. The department evaluates the application in terms of academic suitability. Once departmental approval is granted, the official application process begins.

3. Course Selection and Learning Agreement

Since most of the required documents have already been submitted, this stage proceeds quickly. The student:

  • Contacts the departmental coordinator, (the lisst is in the below)
  • Starts the course selection process, and
  • Completes the Learning Agreement based on the approved courses.

The completion of the Learning Agreement finalizes the academic component of the free mover application.

4. Health Insurance and Post-Arrival Procedures

Following departmental approval, students are required to obtain educational travel and health insurance before arriving in Türkiye.

After arrival, students must apply for a residence permit. A valid health insurance policy is mandatory for this application. However, not all health insurance policies obtained abroad are accepted for residence permit applications in Türkiye.

For this reason, the recommended procedure is as follows:

  • Students are advised to obtain a health insurance policy in their home country that is valid for at least one month after arrival in Türkiye.
  • After arrival, students are recommended to obtain a private health insurance policy in Türkiye covering the entire duration of their study period.

This approach helps ensure a smooth residence permit application process.
Nevertheless, the type and place of health insurance are entirely at the student’s own discretion.
