If there is an inter-institutional agreement between your home university and Eskişehir Technical University (ESTU), it is possible to study at ESTU as a Free Mover.
Students who wish to spend an exchange period of one or two semesters in Eskişehir may apply under the Free Mover status for Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree programmes. Hosting approval is subject to the availability and acceptance of the relevant faculty or department, depending on the proposed study programme.
ESTU does not charge tuition fees to incoming students from partner institutions. However, all other expenses, including travel, accommodation, insurance, visa fees, meals, and personal living costs, are the responsibility of the student.

How Does the Process Work?
The Free Mover application process consists of several steps carried out in coordination between the student's home university and Eskişehir Technical University.
1. Nomination and Required Application Documents
First, the student must be officially nominated by their home university. The nomination and all supporting documents should be sent by e-mail to uib@eskisehir.edu.tr.
The following documents are required:
-
Official approval letter from the home university confirming permission to apply as a Free Mover (in English)
-
Proof of sufficient language proficiency in English or Turkish, depending on the applied department (for the details read below)
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) and Motivation Letter (in English)

- Please note that departments may conduct an interview prior to acceptance.
2. Departmental Evaluation and Approval
All submitted documents are forwarded to the relevant academic department where the student plans to study. The department evaluates the application in terms of academic suitability.
The evaluation process generally takes approximately 2–4 weeks following the application deadline, depending on the responsiveness of the relevant academic department.
Once the departmental approval process has been completed successfully, an official Letter of Acceptance will be issued by ESTU.
3. Course Selection and Learning Agreement
Since most of the required documents have already been submitted, this stage proceeds quickly. The student:
-
contacts the relevant departmental coordinator (the list is provided below),
-
starts the course selection process, and
-
completes the Learning Agreement based on the approved courses.
The completion of the Learning Agreement finalises the academic component of the Free Mover application.
4. Health Insurance and Post-Arrival Procedures
Following departmental approval, students are required to obtain educational travel and health insurance before arriving in Türkiye.
After arrival, students must apply for a residence permit. A valid health insurance policy is mandatory for this application. However, not all health insurance policies obtained abroad are accepted for residence permit applications in Türkiye.
For this reason, the recommended procedure is as follows:
-
Students are advised to obtain a health insurance policy in their home country that is valid for at least one month after arrival in Türkiye.
-
After arrival, students are recommended to obtain a private health insurance policy in Türkiye covering the entire duration of their study period.
This approach helps ensure a smooth residence permit application process. Nevertheless, the type and place of health insurance are entirely at the student's own discretion.
ESTU International Relations Office provides guidance regarding residence permit procedures after the student's arrival.
